Jalal Hazzard

Non-profit Consultant


Jalal Hazzard is a non-profit and foundation executive with over 10 years experience in grants management, program and organizational development and non-profit management. He has worked in both the foundation arena as well holding a variety of positions in the non-profit community. A majority of his expertise has centered in the sports and education arenas.

At the LA 84 Foundation, Jalal serves as a Senior Program Officer that reviews grants and provides technical assistance to non-profits to insure that they meet funding guidelines and develop sustainable programs. He has focused on helping grantees improve services and outcomes that are crucial to expanding and maintaining funding sources. Jalal has also developed and administered programs for the Foundation that serve over 7000 youth in the Los Angeles area as well as administer a $1,000,000 annual youth program budget. Creating and piloting programs and partnerships with school districts and community based organizations have been a hallmark of his foundation work.

After completion of his graduate degree he served as the Associate Director of the Los Angeles Sports Academy a ground breaking program for middle school students that used sports as a method to improve academic achievement and attendance. In this position he designed successful direct marketing campaigns, fundraising events and oversaw all operations and supervised a staff of 40. He also served as a Regional Manager for Special Olympics of Southern California serving more than 3000 athletes.

In the for profit world Jalal has worked with SBC/Pacific Bell as a Center Manager for the Los Angeles Major Account Center where he managed major business customers. He also is the one of the founders of an independent record label where he secured the initial investment, developed strategic business and marketing plans, negotiated agreements with artists, record labels, retail outlets and distributors.

Jalal is a graduate of Morehouse College and received an MBA from Tulane University, with a focus on marketing and general management. Jalal is a member of the National Black MBA Association, Southern California Grant Makers and African Americans in Philanthropy.
